Each year, the Council is pleased to present awards to Southern California authors and illustrators for outstanding books published in the previous year. The awards are presented and celebrated at the Fall Gala.
With the exception of three named awards, the Myra Cohn Livingston Award for Poetry, the Dorothy C. McKenzie Award for Distinguished Service to the Field of Children's Literature, and the Peggy Miller Award for Young Adult Literature, the Award categories vary from year to year and are determined by the serving Awards Committee, which is comprised of Children's Literature Council members. The Committee considers all books written and/or illustrated by Southern California authors and illustrators and published in the year preceding the Award year.
The Awards Committee convenes in January each year. Submissions (books published the year before) for award consideration may be sent directly to the Awards Chair. Please include an official SUBMISSION FORM.
